Boost

Light painting Was experimenting at home with my camera equipment (external flash, soft box and light stand, tripod, Remote control) with my brother as the model when i decided to play my handy torchlight….XD…….

This is one of my first attempts with light painting photography…but i decided to add abit of my own style in terms of background and colour. Did a few shots until i got this particular shot!

I guess this first attempt at model/light painting photography has widen my horizon of what i can do in this field of photography. Perhaps better locations, props, models and different colored light sources for a more dramatic and visually enticing images!

I noticed that i haven’t been uploading as much as i would like to, thus, i decided to post this photo today to further boost my portfolio!!!!

Wildlife

It’s been quite some time since i had time to post photos on this blog. Wildlife Photography has always been of great interest to me ever since i began clicking the shutter. I always felt that nature always had a way of giving life to photos and that Wow factor which inanimate subjects lack.

Photo taken at the Singapore Zoological Gardens This Photo was taken with a Canon Eos 7D using a 24-105mm f4 IS lens at the Singapore Zoological Gardens. I composed the photo in such a way that only a small portion of the entire snake was captured so as to reveal details in the scales as well as ensure that the head of the snake was sharp, taking up a large part of the photo as the central focus point so that people who recognize the animal. The dark green eerie glow to the snake was pure accident and i did not expect such an effect to occur. Thankfully, i felt that it added to the dynamics of the photograph adding the extra element of fear and mystery to this fascinating creatures. XD

BTW…. i love photographing snakes! lols…..

Singapore Zoological GardensThis photo of a white tiger was also taken at the Singapore Zoological Gardens. I was using the same camera body which was a Canon Eos 7D but instead using a Sigma 150-500mm f5 – 6.3 OS HSM lens for the much needed telephoto perspective as the animal was quite far from where i was to capture such a close up shot. Initially i was quite irritated as the tiger was facing away from the observation areas and thus i was not able to see the face of the animal. But fortunately, it turned to face us after waiting for a few minutes and i managed to compose and shoot it before it returned to it’s lazy position.

For nature photography, i believe 2 factors are quite essential to almost every photograph.

First: Close Up! Fill the frame!

Second: It’s all in the eyes, make sure when you focus, make sure the eyes are sharp to attain that perfect shot!

Thats it for now!
Fire Away! Shutter SPAMS!

Marina Bay Singapore

Boomz

Went down to Marina Bay this year to catch the fireworks during one of the NDP rehersals. Borrowed a Canon 10-22mm wide angle lens to take this photo. Tried testing out various settings to then finally achieve this image.

I used bulb mode for this photo and set my other settings such as my ISO to 100 and my aperture to around f11-f13. Had my sturdy benro tripod with me as well as my shutter release (IT MOST DEFINITELY HELPS) to capture the bursts. If i am not mistaken, the exposure for each photo taken was around 3-5 seconds from around the time the fireworks were shot to when it bursts.

Although i had taken fireworks before…these shots were much better than previous as there was alot of wind which blew the smoke away and also that i had a 10-22mm and a shutter release which was really an advantage….

O wells…Thats all of now….

Chill………

Experimental Photography

The other day, i decided to use my free time (when i was super bored) to try out my new light stand and soft box that i bought at a recent IT FAIR in Singapore which cost me about less than a hundred bucks. So i decided to test it via product photography (or Mighty Mugg IRONMAN 2 toy which i recently collected $$). I tried out various angles and lighting positions and some time on lightroom and photoshop to finally produce this outcome on my War Machine toy. If you look carefully, you should be able to see a reflection of the toys feet* which was done via a copied layer and rotation done in photoshop followed by a fade effect (done via adjusting the fill and opacity of layer).

In Lightroom, i decided to go with a sorta dark sepia or 3oo (movie) effect to make the toy look more appealing and cool*. The background lighting such as the smokey light brown at the back was totally unexpected and unintentional but it adds to the mysterious effect to the photo, enhancing it i feel. This is an example how accidents in photography can lead to good photos!

I did do another photo on my Iron Man figurine but i am damn lazy to post it up here on this blog (also due to the god damn space constrains), so if you are interested, you should be able to check it out on my FREELANCE 6 album on my facebook account. I just realized that my Flickr account (FREE, i love things that are free) is starting to reach the space limit; so i’m still pondering if i should get a PRO account……..

OH WELLS……I’ll see if i can find any good photography videos on youtube and see if i’m able to post them out here. Perhaps i should post tips and tricks up here too (just to share!). As of now, i think i will have even less time in future as i will be studying damn hard in University.

Well then! Until Next time!

First Encounter

This is my first entry into Phototonus Studios Blog!

Phototonus means (according to a few dictionaries i checked online) “The state of being sensitive to or irritated     by light.” Perhaps the idea of being irritated/sensitive to light to the extent that we need to take a photo of that   situation might of prompted me to adopt such a name (after much time spent on research and arduous brainstorming).

Since this is sorta like a FIRST ENCOUNTER on my Photo Portfolio of sorts, i decided to insert this particular           photo. It was taken at the top of a staircase leading to the roof area of a school building. The entrance to the roof   was some small squarish door. The light that  wrapped around one my pals gave this photo one of those eerie alien encounter feel to it and i thought to myself, this is one photo-opportunity that was not to be missed.

I felt that the original photo in colour was too distracting thus i changed it to sepia to create more impact.

I hope that this would be this first of many posts to be made in time to come, i too hope that i would have the time to update this blog as often as i am able!
